PROSOPIS INVASION
How to mitigate effects and control one of the most damaging invasive plants
Prosopis juliflora – known as mesquite/mathenge – was introduced to Kenya from South America after severe droughts of the 1970s and originally hailed as a miracle tree. It now displaces communities, threatens food security and increases human-wildlife conflict. We work together with those most effected to test scalable mitigation strategies and bring together local knowledge with global research. Working together with local communities, social scientists and Kenyan research institutes we have a team with unique insights and skills to deliver real solutions.
