MOZiMAC

Uncovering the link between mosquitoes & macophytes

Mosquitoes are among the world’s deadliest animals, transmitting diseases like malaria, dengue and West Nile virus that affect millions each year and are increasing in Europe. Freshwater ecosystems – where many mosquitoes breed – are increasingly under threat from aquatic invasive alien plants (IAPs) that change water quality and biodiversity. MOZiMAC investigates how these plants may create favorable habitats for mosquitoes, linking ecosystem change with disease risk. The results will support integrated management strategies that protect biodiversity, improve water health, and reduce mosquito-borne disease risks in a changing climate.
